Mayor? No thanks, says Sir John  de  es

David Cameron's meandering search for a high-profile Conservative candidate for London mayor hit into another dead end yesterday as Sir John Major rejected the Tory leader's offer. The former prime minister's "thanks but no thanks" came after Mr Cameron publicly entertained the idea, first floated by Times columnist Matthew Parris.
